Dominik Szoboszlai has dismissed suggestions that he is trying to replicate a Steven Gerrard season at Liverpool after the Reds’ 3-0 FA Cup fourth round win over Brighton.

The Hungarian midfielder has drawn comparisons to Gerrard due to his influence, goal threat, and presence in key moments.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round, Szoboszlai addressed those parallels directly and made his stance clear.

Dominik Szoboszlai rejects Steven Gerrard season comparisons

Following Liverpool’s FA Cup win, Szoboszlai was asked about talk of a Steven Gerrard-like season. Szoboszlai responded to the comparisons during the post-match interview.

“I just want to keep going and score as many as I can. I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season. Although he was a legend at the club, I’m trying to write my own story,” Szoboszlai stated.

The reply was measured and respectful. Szoboszlai acknowledged Gerrard’s legendary standing at Anfield but made it clear that he is focused on building his own legacy rather than mirroring a former captain.

With Liverpool progressing in the FA Cup, his emphasis remained on contribution rather than narrative. Comparisons may continue, but Szoboszlai’s objective is performance and impact.

Dominik Szoboszlai outlines Liverpool’s FA Cup ambition

Szoboszlai also shifted attention towards Liverpool’s wider ambitions in the competition. He underlined the importance of consistency as the season moves forward.

“I try to do my best every game. Hopefully, we can go on until the end,” he added.

The comment reflected focus rather than hype. Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brighton keeps them firmly in the FA Cup, and maintaining that level will be key if they are to challenge deep into the tournament.

Szoboszlai may reject the idea of recreating a Steven Gerrard season, but if his performances continue to shape results like this one, his own chapter in Liverpool’s history will develop on its own terms.
