Donnarumma’s Agent Shocked by PSG’s Handling of Star Goalkeeper:

Gianluigi Donnarumma is not playing in the UEFA Super Cup game between Tottenham and PSG on Wednesday, August 13, due to links with a possible Manchester City transfer happening this week.

The Italian goalkeeper has been one of the most watched in the world since his debut for Milan in 2015 at just 16 years old — the youngest player to ever start a Serie A game for the club. After years as the undisputed starter, Donnarumma moved to PSG to join the club’s previous project alongside Neymar, Mbappé, and Messi.

After six years with Milan, he transferred to Paris in 2021. Now, his time at the club appears to be coming to an end. He was left out of the PSG squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham and has announced he will be leaving this summer.

Speaking for the first time about the matter, Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola revealed that a return to Serie A is out of the question, as he believes the right next step is a move to the Premier League. He also made it clear that both he and Donnarumma were shocked by how PSG handled the situation.

"Premier League is the right step for Gigi in my view. We're working on it (possible transfer). There are zero talks with Italian clubs. We are still shocked by PSG behavior with Gigio" - Enzo Raiola said in an exclusive interview to Fabrizio Romano.

Why Gianluigi Donnarumma Was Left Out of the PSG Squad Against Tottenham

PSG manager Luis Enrique decided to leave Donnarumma out of the squad for the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham. According to him, the decision was based on the club’s search for a different type of goalkeeper.

"These are always difficult decisions to make. I can only say very good things about Gianluigi Donnarumma. He is one of the best players in his position without any doubt. He is an even better person, but we're looking for a different profile of goalkeeper. It's always difficult to decide these sorts of situations." - Luis Enrique said.

PSG Backs Up Luis Enrique's Decision in New statement

The club did not leave Luis Enrique to take all the backlash for the tough decision. PSG released a statement highlighting their new goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, who will start the match against Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup.

"Comfortable on his line, in one-on-one situations, and in the air, he also has excellent distribution skills, qualities that have quickly established him as one of the best shot-stoppers in the league and one of the most promising players in his position in Europe. His progress was rewarded last May with the title of Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year at the end of season UNFP Awards, as well as a nomination for the Lev Yashin Trophy - of which he is the youngest goalkeeper ever to be nominated - which recognizes the best goalkeepers of the season around the globe." - PSG said in an official statement.
