Don’t start the regrets with Oh, many would have paid his fair to Belgium…

Yesterday saw one of the most intriguing moves in the transfer window with Genk and former Celtic striker Oh subject of a €28 million move to Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

It caught a lot of Celtic supporters by surprise as the South Korean international wasn’t exactly a highly regarded player during his short stay in Glasgow, as he struggled to command a regular first team place with Kyogo the main striker at that time, making most of his appearances from the bench.

Signed for £2.5 million in January 2023 from Suwon in his native South Korea, Oh made a grand total of 47 appearances scoring 12 goals winning two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup before departing for Genk in the summer of 2024 for a fee reckoned to be worth £2.5 million.

Oh has clearly impressed in Belgium, he’s broken into his national side and is now in line for a megabucks move to the Bundesliga, with Celtic also reckoned to be benefiting due to significant sell on clause.

This will undoubtedly lead to plenty of head shaking amongst an element of our support. But now is not the time for regrets as most of you would have paid his fair to Belgium just to get rid, as just like Adam Idah he wasn’t exactly seen as a popular figure in the eyes of some supporters.

We can only wish Oh Hyeon-Gyu well and hope that the windfall is re-invested in the team come the January transfer window which opens exactly five months from today. Bet you can’t wait!
