Inter Milan took it down to the details against Man City in the Champions League final two years ago, but were lacking everything against PSG.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Inter Milan have lost two Champions League finals in the space of three years.
However, the two defeats could not be much more different.
In 2023, Inter fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the final.
However, that had been a match that Inter emerged from with a lot of credit. They had been widely considered the underdogs – but were if anything unfortunate to lose.
Inter went toe-to-toe with City for the whole ninety minutes. And the feeling was that with the chances they created, the Nerazzurri at least deserved to force extra time.
That performance against City had given Inter hope ahead of this season’s final.
That time around, the Nerazzurri were really only lacking the final touches. Had they just been more clinical in front of goal, and had the bounces gone their way, they could certainly have won.
Therefore, the feeling around Inter was that this would be similar. If they kept things tight, they could get the better of PSG.
But that’s not how it went at all. Putting it mildly.
This time around, Paris Saint-Germain looked fully up to the favourite status. Inter Milan were not even close to the Parisians.
