Emily Sonnett underwent surgery, hasn’t traveled with Gotham

In a press conference on Tuesday, acting Gotham FC head coach Shaun Harris spoke about veteran defender Emily Sonnett’s condition after leaving the pitch on a stretcher early in Friday’s match against the Portland Thorns at Providence Park.

Harris said that the center back, who is a fixture with the U.S. women’s national team, did not travel with Gotham to California for the club’s match against Bay FC on Wednesday.

He added, “I think her surgery was this morning or yesterday.”

He did not specify what the surgery was for.

“We’re really gutted and devastated that we’re losing such a key player at this moment in the season,” Harris said. “We wish her all the best.”
