England invite Manchester United goalkeeper to training camp

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has undergone plenty of change this summer.

Andre Onana’s underwhelming spell at Old Trafford eventually ended with a season-long loan to Trabzonspor for the second time after spending time out their last season as well.

Altay Bayindir followed him out of the door, also departing on loan, with a move to Celta Vigo.

Senne Lammens is currently the clubs number one between the sticks after a brilliant debut season.

Karl Darlow was subsequently added as senior cover after arriving at the club this season.

Further down United’s goalkeeping pyramid, one of the club’s youngest talents has now earned recognition of his own.

Manchester United goalkeeper invited to England camp

Zico Honor has been invited to attend an England goalkeeper training camp, a notable honour for a player still just 14 years old, as reported by Red Youth United on X.

He is currently part of Manchester United’s youth setup and is moving up into the Under-15s age group this season.

Zico’s older brother, 19-year-old Solomon Honor, also plays as a goalkeeper and features for United’s Under-21 squad.

Solomon joined United’s academy back in February, having previously come through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers.

He has since gone out on a season-long loan to National League North side Southport to gain further first-team experience.

Zico Honor was already part of United’s academy system by the time his brother made the switch from Blackburn earlier this year.

The pair’s progress reflects a wider trend within United’s academy, where sibling pairings have become increasingly common in recent seasons.

Gazik Ibragimov and his brother Amir are among the other academy siblings currently developing together at the club, as well as Jack and Tyler Fletcher.

United’s goalkeeping academy has a strong recent history of producing talent capable of representing England at various levels.

Dean Henderson came through United’s youth ranks before going on to earn senior international recognition with England.

Tom Heaton, another product of the English game, has also earned England caps during a long and experienced career.

Sam Johnstone similarly progressed through Manchester United’s academy before establishing himself in the Premier League and earning senior honours.

Zico’s call-up marks an early step on a pathway that has historically proven fruitful for United’s academy goalkeepers.

England’s youth setup regularly invites promising young shot-stoppers to training camps as part of its long-term development programme.

For now, the focus for United’s academy staff will simply be continuing to nurture a talent who has already caught the eye of the national set-up.
