England invite second Manchester United goalkeeper to training camp

Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has been one of the more transformed areas of the squad this summer.

Andre Onana’s exit on loan to Trabzonspor brought an end to a turbulent spell between the posts at Old Trafford.

Senne Lammens has been tasked with adjusting quickly to English football after his move from Royal Antwerp last season and he had a brilliant debut season.

Altay Bayindir also left on loan, joining Celta Vigo after failing to establish himself as first-choice under Michael Carrick.

Karl Darlow was brought in separately to provide experienced cover behind Lammens.

Amid that first-team reshuffle, attention has also turned to the club’s emerging goalkeeping talent further down the pyramid.

Manchester United goalkeeper receives England goalkeeper training invitation

Marley Irving has posted on his Instagram story from an England goalkeeper training camp, becoming the second United keeper to earn such a call-up this month.

He follows 14-year-old Zico Honor, who received a similar invitation.

Marley Irving hails from Cumbria and began his youth career at Cleator Moor Celtic before moving on to Carlisle United at Under-8 level.

He officially joined Manchester United as an Under-14 player in early 2025.

Since arriving at Carrington, Irving has continued to progress through England’s development pathway, earning further call-ups to national training camps along the way.

Honor’s own rise has been aided by his older brother, Solomon, a goalkeeper who currently plays for United’s Under-21 squad.

Solomon joined United from Blackburn Rovers earlier this year and is out on loan at National League North side Southport this season.

Lammens’ arrival was seen as a long-term solution to a position that has caused United persistent problems since David de Gea’s departure in 2023.

Onana’s struggles in particular prompted growing calls from supporters for fresh investment between the posts.

Darlow’s signing gives Carrick a more experienced option to call upon should Lammens need time to settle.

United’s recent history includes several goalkeepers who progressed through the youth ranks to earn senior England recognition.

Dean Henderson, Tom Heaton and Sam Johnstone all previously came through the club’s system before going on to win senior caps.

Irving and Honor now find themselves on a similar pathway, albeit still several years away from first-team contention.
