Liam Rosenior’s fallout with certain groups in the Chelsea dressing room was apparently key to his downfall.
Jacob Steinberg is the latest journalist to drop his piece on the sacking of Liam Rosenior by Chelsea, and he has his own interesting angle on it,.
The Guardian journalist focuses on the dressing room disharmony, which seemed to lead to the bad results which ultimately proved to be Rosenior’s undoing.
“Although there were young English players who liked Rosenior it is understood Chelsea’s Spanish speakers regarded the former Strasbourg, Hull and Derby manager with little enthusiasm,” Steinberg wrote.
“The relationship grew strained after Enzo Fernández was dropped for two games after a series of rebellious interviews. Rosenior had the support of the club on the ban and thought he could ride out the storm but Fernández is one of the biggest characters in the squad. The situation around the £106.7m Argentina midfielder created too much noise.”
It’s interesting how much this puts the Enzo decision on Rosenior. The way he was always keen to paint it as a club decision appeared to be distancing himself, from it, but in fact may have been protecting himself.
Sadly we will probably never know.
The candidates to replace Liam Rosenior are already being talked about, with Ben Jacobs naming a couple.
Gary Neville has had his say, calling the owners stupid and their long contracts “laughable.”
