Looking ahead to Chelsea’s next game, we’ve already had a look at what Enzo Maresca might be thinking.
In defence he will have a wealth of new options available. In attack things are going to be a little more limited for a few more weeks. Cole Palmer is touch and go, Estevao isn’t seen as ready to start every game, Jamie Gittens is struggling, Liam Delap is still a month or more away.
We reckon Facundo Buonanotte could get his second Chelsea league start against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
He’s only played 45 minutes for Chelsea so far in the Premier League, but made an impressive 2 key passes and had a pass success rate of 91% in that time. He will move between the lines, keep things tidy and enable the more direct players around him to do damage.
Effectively, you’re just asking him to play 55 solid minutes before Estevao Willian or Cole Palmer (depending on who is fitter and fresher) come on in the second half. Hopefully by that time you’re already winning. Even if you’re not, the attacking firepower you bring on has plenty of time to get the job done.
That setup benefits Palmer and Estevao, who are probably only ready for 45 minutes anyway (Palmer is touch and go after returning from an injury while Estevao is on international duty with Brazil), and gives Buonanotte another chance to get to grips with his role in the team.
It will all depend on how Maresca sees the fitness of his returning players – but this feels like a real possibility to us.
He was trusted against Benfica a week ago – why not against a struggling Nottingham Forest team?
