Sevilla forward Erik Lamela survived a VAR review for a potential red card following a foul on Casemiro during Thursday's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Manchester United.

Lamela was originally shown a yellow card after the studs on his left boot made contact with the right leg of Casemiro, who was on the ground after an attempted slide tackle.

But Lamela was then made to sweat as the VAR official had a long look at the incident to consider whether the former Tottenham player should be sent off.

Following the review, it was decided that the on-field referee had made the correct call and Lamela escaped with a yellow card.

Although Lamela did catch Casemiro with his studs, he did not appear to push down with any deliberate force.

This incident occurred late in the first half after Marcel Sabitzer had scored twice to put United 2-0 up.
