Estevao Willian reveals what Enzo Maresca said before he came on to beat Liverpool

Estevao came on fearless, going right at Liverpool’s back line without hesitation.

Maresca told him to play the way he always does, and the Brazilian did just that.

“When I went on, he told me to just play my own game and to try and make an impact,” Estevao revealed when speaking with Chelsea’s official club website.

“He told me to try and score or create a goal and thankfully I managed to do that.”

Daniel Sturridge, former Chelsea striker, was impressed by Estevao’s performance at Stamford Bridge. He noted the ex-Palmeiras star’s impressive ability to time his runs to the back post, especially considering his young age.

Fans will want more of that from Estevao when Chelsea face Nottingham Forest after the international break. Forest have not looked great under Ange Postecoglou so far, so there are good chances for three points.

So far, Estevao has settled in well at Cobham and feels his early days have gone smoother than he expected.

“Things at Chelsea have gone a lot better so far than I maybe imagined. I feel so good in training every day and I enjoy every moment.”

Alejandro Garnacho also had a strong showing against Liverpool, even if he did not get on the scoresheet. The Argentina international was especially effective in the first half, putting Conor Bradley under real pressure before the full-back was taken off at half-time with a booking.

Maresca now has plenty of quality options out wide, with Garnacho, Estevao, Pedro Neto and Jamie Gittens all available to him.
