Everton are among several Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Troy Parrott ahead of the January transfer window.
The Republic of Ireland international has come into focus after a standout international break, where his performances caught plenty of attention.
Parrott scored five goals in two matches, including a hat-trick that secured Ireland’s place in the World Cup play-offs, raising his profile even further.
Everton have had their struggles in front of goal this season, and David Moyes is expected to address the lack of firepower when the window opens.
Speaking with Everton News, transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed AZ Alkmaar’s position regarding a possible January deal for Parrott, as the Toffees are showing interest in the player.
Kevin Kilbane, who previously played for Everton, predicted that Parrott would attract significant Premier League interest during the January window.
In an update to the information about the 23-year-old provided last week following Ireland’s victory over Portugal, Bailey has now elaborated on the details in a statement to Everton News.
“Troy Parrott is a fascinating option, his stock and value have never been higher. AZ would consider a January sale, but it won’t be a bargain.
“I understand Everton have done their checks on him, he is very much on their shortlist for January,” he revealed.
The Toffees signed Thierno Barry this past summer but failed to add further depth up top despite Moyes’ wishes.
Competition will be stiff if they do make a move for Parrott and AZ are under no pressure to let him go cheaply.
Everton are looking to sign one of Europe’s top-performing strikers, and they are trying to make it happen in the middle of the season.
Parrott has said he is happy at AZ Alkmaar, but after his time at Tottenham Hotspur, a return to the Premier League might be hard to turn down.
AZ are currently third in the Eredivisie, sitting seven points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.
On the other hand, with Champions League qualification still within reach, convincing Parrott to leave AZ midway through the campaign may be a tough sell for any club.
Everton supporters have already backed the idea of bringing him in, but Angus Kinnear will have his work cut out if this move is going to happen.
