Everton has been a club in disarray in recent seasons, just avoiding relegation in the 2022-23 season. They were struggling last season, before David Moyes steered the club to a 13th-place finish. The club have been active recently in the transfer window, and Paul Joyce at The Sunday Times now states that the Toffees have decided to “ramp up” their efforts to sign Jack Grealish.
It had been a frustrating summer transfer window, with Everton only signing Carlos Alcaraz for some time. Now, Moyes has signed Thierno Barry, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Adam Aznou. It now appears the Toffees are looking to sign Grealish, who became the first English footballer to be signed for £100 million or more when he moved to the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2021.
Fabrizio Romano also reports that Grealish has opened the doors to the move with negotiations underway. Everton and City are discussing terms for a potential loan deal.
“Grealish’s body language is exceptional if he plays or doesn’t play,” Guardiola said.
“These type of guys always play good. He was really good defensively too.”
Grealish has undoubtedly had plenty of high points at the Etihad, but he has been in and out of the side throughout his time at the club. On his day, Grealish is imperious. He possesses exceptional close control and can dance around opposition players with ease.
He’s also excellent at ball retention, very much in the mould of Paul Gascoigne. His vision to pick out a teammate is also another key attribute that cannot be ignored. His experience would be a huge bonus to Moyes’ squad, as would his undoubted ability on the ball.
