Here’s the latest team news and confirmed lineups as Everton visit St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in the Premier League. With just one point separating the sides, the three points are crucial for both teams. It’s a close competition with both sides winning only one of their last five league games, however the Magpies did dominate in the last meeting between the teams, winning 4-1 at the Toffees home ground. Newcastle have just booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, so will Eddie Howe’s side be able to bring the dominance they’ve demonstrated in the Champions League to the Premier League, or will Everton steal this victory?

Newcastle United vs Everton Team News and Confirmed Lineups

Everton Team News

Everton will miss Charly Alcaraz for a number of weeks, after he picked up an undisclosed injury during training, Toffees boss David Moyes confirmed in his pre-match press conference. The Scotsman is still looking to secure a European spot, saying: “We’re not ready to give up our ambition to make Europe. We’ll keep going for it – why wouldn’t we?”, as Everton could move up a spot in the table if the result goes their way this weekend.

Out: Jack Grealish (foot injury), Charly Alcaraz (undisclosed injury).

Available: The rest of the squad remain fit and available for the fixture, with Jake O’Brien returning from suspension.

Newcastle Team News

The Magpies are coming down from a high, after securing their place in the final 16 of the Champions League with a 3-2 win over Qarabag – progressing to the next stage 9-3 on aggregate.

Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe, said: “It’s really special, really positive for us. We’re looking forward to what the draw brings and the games when they come round.”

However, with their focus on their upcoming game against the Toffees, Howe understands the threat Everton pose, commenting: “Everton have done really well on their travels, they’ve been a really tough team to beat.

“Their record has been fantastic, David’s teams are very difficult to score against so it’s a game in which our attacking play has to be really good and our defensive work has to be improved from recent weeks.”

Out: Lewis Miley (muscle injury), Tino Livramento (hamstring injury), Bruno Guimaraes (hamstring injury), Fabian Schar (ankle injury) and Emil Krafth (knee injury).

Available: Sven Botman and Yoane Wissa returned to the squad for the game against Qarabag, with both players getting minutes in that fixture. Howe is hopeful that Jacob Ramsey will return to the matchday squad after he picked up a minor hamstring issue that resulted in him missing the midweek fixture.
