Former AC Milan and Inter defender Fulvio Collovati previewed the Nerazzurri’s Serie A home clash against Fiorentina.
Speaking to Radio FirenzeViola via FCInterNews, Collovati hailed Inter’s style of play but singled out one major weakness.
Inter Milan failed to extend their seven-game winning streak last weekend, losing 3-1 at Napoli.
With the Partenopei emerging 1-0 victors at Lecce last night, six points separate the sides ahead of tonight’s kick-off.
Therefore, victory is imperative for the Nerazzurri if they’re to keep pace with the Serie A pacesetters.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina’s visit looks daunting on paper.
However, it’s been an awful start to the season for La Viola, who are still waiting for their first league win.
Indeed, returning manager Stefano Pioli has already come under heavy scrutiny, with the Tuscan club stuck in the drop zone.
As such, this seems like a presentable opportunity for Cristian Chivu to get his side back to winning ways.
Pioli cannot afford another poor result, as he sits on the brink of an early dismissal.
However, the former Scudetto winner is not afraid to take risks.
There’s speculation that Pioli might hand up-and-coming teenager Niccolo Fortini an unlikely start tonight.
However, Collovati strongly advised the ex-AC Milan boss against taking such risks in this high-stakes showdown.
“No, with Inter, you can’t play these youngsters,” he was adamant. “You have to make the regulars face their responsibilities.
“Fortini is good, but you need to give responsibility to those who have been playing so far.”
Then, Collovati praised Inter’s football but highlighted their defensive woes.
“The match is complicated,” he added. “Inter plays well.
“However, they have defensive problems, as they showed in the second half against Napoli, with the goals from Scott McTominay and Andre Anguissa.
“They are a team that creates a lot but can leave spaces.”
