Thiago Silva feels that Al-Hilal’s Simone Inzaghi is a “top coach” who “came close to winning it all with Inter Milan.”
The Brazilian spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after his Fluminense team knocked Al-Hilal out of the Club World Cup.
Simone Inzaghi left Inter Milan in shock circumstances last month.
The 49-year-old departed the Nerazzurri just a few days after they had lost the Champions League final.
Furthermore, Inter had not just lost that final. They suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.
Meanwhile, Inter also lost out on the Serie A title to Napoli on the very last day of the season.
That did not stop Al-Hilal from breaking the bank to attract Inzaghi, however. Evidently, the former Lazio coach’s previous work had convinced them, regardless of how the season ended.
Reportedly, Al-Hilal were negotiating with Simone Inzaghi in the build-up to the Champions League final.
And in the end, the 49-year-old chose the cash on offer from the Saudi club rather than staying at Inter or coaching at a high level at a different European club.
Fluminense defender Thiago Silva gave his thoughts on Inzaghi. “He’s a great coach,” said the iconic former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and AC Milan defender.
“He’s shown that this season.”
“With Inter he came close to winning it all, every trophy,” Silva noted.
“But he’s a great coach. He has my respect.”
“Hopefully, next season things can go differently to what happened this season for him,” Silva added.
