It’s never easy settling into life at Anfield, but even Jurgen Klinsmann believes Liverpool’s former record signing faces a battle unlike most.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated in Germany, the 1990 World Cup winner admitted that Florian Wirtz is “having to fight his way through step by step” since moving to the Premier League champions this summer.

The 22-year-old joined us from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million after two stunning seasons in the Bundesliga.

Yet as the German legend put it, life “in a team made up entirely of superstars” is proving a huge step up.

“Florian needs time to find his feet in the northwest of England,” Klinsmann said.

“Liverpool in particular – that’s a lot for a young lad. He’ll have to fight his way through it step by step – and that’s what he will do. He’s a fighter.”

Patience required for Florian Wirtz

Klinsmann’s words echo the views of Shay Given, who recently said Liverpool’s midfielder is a “diamond waiting to explode”.

Given insisted the German international will soon prove his class once he settles into Arne Slot’s system.

Micah Richards has also defended the former Leverkusen man, arguing that his teammates must take some responsibility for missed chances.

Richards believes that with sharper movement and confidence, the 22-year-old can transform our attack.

Why Liverpool must give Wirtz time to flourish

The Bundesliga Player of the Year has managed just one goal contribution so far, but his underlying stats tell a more encouraging story.

According to FBref, Wirtz ranks among Liverpool’s top three players for key passes per game and shot-creating actions this season.

It’s clear that his influence is growing even if the final numbers haven’t yet followed.

With Arne Slot gradually building chemistry between Wirtz and the forwards, it feels like only a matter of time before we start to see the £116 million man thrive in red.

Klinsmann’s comments may sound like a warning, but they’re also a reminder that even the best must adapt.

And if anyone’s built to fight their way through, it’s a player who’s already conquered Germany.
