Matteo Darmian believes that beating Bologna can help Inter Milan by giving them confidence ahead of their match against Atletico Madrid.

The Italian international spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 Serie A win away to the Rossoblu.

Inter kept their remarkable winning run since the start of 2024 going away to Genoa.

It was never going to be easy against a team who have deservedly gained themselves a foothold in the Champions League places in the table. And it wasn’t.

Particularly in the second half, Inter really had to dig in and defend.

But the Nerazzurri did so effectively in the end.

There were few good chances if any for Bologna to respond to Yann Bisseck’s first-half goal. And that meant that it was enough for Inter to take three more points on their march to the Serie A title.

Matteo Darmian: Beating Bologna Can Help Inter Vs Bologna

Inter can hardly dwell on the match against Bologna for long, though. In just a couple days’ time, the Nerazzurri come face-to-face with Atletico Madrid for a Champions League round of sixteen clash.

Darmian said that beating Bologna was “A very important win on our path.”

“It was difficult because Bologna are in-form, and are a great team.”

“But today we were determined.”

Darmian said that “We showed the right spirit to get a vital win. And it will help us a lot for preparing for a hugely important match on Wednesday.”

Darmian noted that Inter “Feel good, both physically and mentally. We’ve been showing that since the start of the season.”

Of facing Atletico, the 34-year-old former Manchester United man said that “We have to respect everything about them.”

“They’re a strong team regardless of the fact that they’re in a moment of bad form right now.”

“I didn’t know they lost today,” he continued.

“But Wednesday’s match is what matters. And we have to respect everything about them – the top-class players they have, the intense atmosphere at the stadium.”

“And we need to play a top match to reach the next round,” Darmian said.
