Former Manchester United and Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi has announced his retirement.

The 36 year-old last played for SPAL in Serie B before coming off contract in June.

He posted to social media: "Today I announce my retirement from the beautiful game. It has been an unforgettable trip!

"From running around the backyard as a kid with a ball at my feet and having my dad as my coach, to playing at the highest level of football possible, in the most beautiful stadiums football has to offer and playing with/against the best players and clubs in the world... I am eternally grateful to have been a part of this sport.

"My dreams came true. My life is fulfilled.

All I ever wanted was to be the best player I could be. I dedicated every ounce of myself, blood, sweat and tears to this sport. I can leave the sport peacefully, knowing that I did everything I can do to achieve my goals," continues the 36-year-old.
