Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has faced a lot of scrutiny this season

It has been a season of mixed emotions for Tottenham fans. The Lilywhites have endured a difficult domestic campaign under Ange Postecoglou. They sit 16th in the Premier League table and there is a realistic possibility that Ange’s men finish the season just a place above the relegation zone. The club has also registered 19 league defeats this season.

However, not all is doom and gloom at N17. Spurs have managed to exceed expectations and put one foot in the Europa League final. The Lilywhites registered a comprehensive 3-1 win against Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of the semi-finals. Now, Ange’s men will travel to Norway and defend a two-goal lead to keep their hopes of winning the competition alive.

It is quite ironic that Tottenham are unbeaten at home in the Europa League this season, but have also registered the most home defeats ever in a single Premier League campaign in the club’s history. If the Lilywhites manage to win the Europa League, then Ange Postecoglou will end the club’s 17-year-long trophy drought.

Tony Cascarino believes Ange Postecoglou will be sacked by Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou’s fate is hanging by a thread at N17. The Australian is on the verge of getting sacked by Daniel Levy. The Lilywhites need to win the Europa League this season if Big Ange wants to stay at the helm in the summer. It may seem as an impossible task, but the ex-Celtic boss has managed to exceed expectations and his side is within touching distance of winning the competition.

However, Tony Cascarino believes Ange Postecoglou should be sacked once the season ends. The ex-Chelsea player said on talkSPORT (as transcribed by TBR Football),

“I think Ange’s gone whatever. You can’t have a season where you’re sitting in what, 16th in the Premier League. You’ve got a new stadium. You’ve got huge revenue, you’ve spent quite big in the transfer market last summer and then justify his reason for staying for a cup run in the Europa League.”

Cascarino added,

“It’s not enough. I think you have to make your decision on the whole of a season of how you’ve done. Ange’s been there two years and you can’t tell me the football you’ve seen has been a progression. I’d be amazed if he’s kept in charge of Tottenham. I think the decision is already made. I can’t see how you could make another decision.”

The ex-Chelsea player suggests that Daniel Levy must sack Ange Postecoglou in the summer, regardless of how the club performs in the Europa League. Cascarino insists that the club should not be sitting 16th in the Premier League after spending millions on players. He also pointed out that Spurs have not progressed under Big Ange and it is better to part ways before it is too late.

Daniel Levy has already started looking for managerial replacements for next season. The Spurs chairman has a shortlist of managers that could replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Burnley boss Scott Parker, and former Dortmund coach Edin Terzic are all being considered by the Lilywhites.

Ange Postecoglou’s race is run at N17. The ex-Celtic boss still has the chance of ending the season on a high and leaving the club on a positive note. If the Australian manages to end the long-standing trophy drought at Spurs, then his name will forever be etched in the club’s history books.
