Lorenzo Insigne is ready for a return to Serie A and a reunion with his old Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri at Lazio, but it might only be possible after September.

Insigne had the high points of his career when working with Sarri at Napoli and never managed to hit those same heights, especially after the transfer to Toronto FC in 2022.

Sarri calling for Insigne comeback

The forward made 139 appearances under Sarri at Napoli, scoring 47 goals and providing 34 assists.

He is now a free agent again after terminating that contract with the Canadian club by mutual consent and at the age of 34 is not prepared to hang up his boots yet.

We can exclusively confirm that Insigne and Sarri have had contact to discuss the situation, and are both enthusiastic about reuniting at Lazio.

The Italy international has other proposals, specifically from Udinese and Parma, with some timid Fiorentina interest too, but would rush to work with Sarri again.

The main problem is that Lazio are currently under a transfer embargo for breaching financial parameters and therefore cannot sign anyone until January, even for free.

It is possible more funds will come in to unblock that embargo by September and allow for free transfers, so Insigne is prepared to wait until then.
