Manchester United are continuing preparations for their upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa as Michael Carrick’s side look to strengthen their push for a UEFA Champions League place.

Carrick has overseen an upturn in form since replacing Ruben Amorim earlier this year, with the former midfielder helping bring renewed energy to the squad during a crucial stage of the campaign.

With the first-team group continuing their preparations at Carrington, several academy prospects are also being given opportunities to train alongside senior players.

CentreDevils can exclusively reveal that one of United’s most promising young talents was involved in first-team training today as preparations continued ahead of the Aston Villa fixture.

The player in question is highly rated defender Godwill Kukonki, who has impressed coaches throughout the club this season.

The teenager has been a standout performer for Manchester United’s Under-18s and is understood to be well regarded by members of the first-team coaching staff, who have been monitoring his progress closely.

Godwill Kukonki stands at 6ft 5in and has represented England at Under-17 level on two occasions.

He has been named on the Manchester United bench four times under Ruben Amorim, against Arsenal, Manchester City, Southampton and Newcastle United.

Kukonki signed his first professional contract with Manchester United in July 2025, a move that reflected the club’s belief in his long-term potential.

Since then, the young defender has continued his development at Carrington, earning praise internally for his performances and attitude during training.

Opportunities to train with the senior squad often represent an important step for academy prospects, allowing coaches to assess how young players adapt to the intensity and demands of the first-team environment.

For Kukonki, the session with Carrick’s squad is another positive sign of the progress he is making within Manchester United’s academy system as he looks to push closer to senior involvement in the future.
