Manchester United are preparing for a midfield overhaul this summer window, with at least two incomings expected for the central positions.
Some players will be moved, and one who is becoming increasingly likely to leave is Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte arrived at Old Trafford from PSG in the summer of 2024; however, the Uruguay international is yet to prove his place in the squad this season.
The Uruguayan midfielder struggled to get minutes earlier in the season during Ruben Amorim’s tenure and is still struggling to see minutes under new interim head coach Michael Carrick.
A midfield pivot of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo is favoured by Carrick, whose side have won seven games in nine.
Casemiro is also set to leave this summer, which will leave Mainoo as the senior player who can play in the pivot.
We can now reveal an update on Ugarte’s situation.
CentreDevils understands that Manuel Ugarte is unhappy at Manchester United with his current gametime and feels he’s not valued.
It’s becoming increasingly likely that the 24-year-old will leave in the summer if the right offer comes in.
Ugarte wanted to leave in the January window, but the Red Devils blocked any move for him due to a shortage of options in midfield.
Galatasaray had strong interest in the 24-year-old as well as another Turkish club, a French club, and an Italian club.
All approaches were blocked by United, as well as any approach for Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo.
With many midfielders having been linked to the Red Devils in recent days, Ugarte’s departure could help fund a new signing too.
There is still the final part of the season to come, and an injury to either Casemiro or Mainoo could see the Uruguay international given a chance, so he must be ready to contribute if needed.
