Rasmus Hojlund remains a genuine target for Napoli, but just as Milan are working on Victor Boniface too, the Partenopei contacted Sassuolo striker Andrea Pinamonti.

The market is running hot for centre-forwards at this stage of the summer, in Napoli’s case it was fuelled by the potentially serious injury to Romelu Lukaku.

As Football Italia had reported a few days ago, Hojlund is one of the names on their wish list, but the Partenopei must decide whether to invest a great deal in the Manchester United striker, who wants a loan with obligation to buy rather than an option.

Napoli keeping options open including Pinamonti

The conditions might change in the final days of the transfer session, but Hojlund is also one of two options for Milan, who continue those negotiations while also pushing Bayer Leverkusen for Victor Boniface.

In that case, their offer for the Nigeria international is a loan with option to buy for a total €30-32m.

Napoli were offered Roma striker Artem Dovbyk, but that too would require a big investment.

More intriguing news comes from the revelation that today Napoli made fresh contact with the entourage representing Pinamonti.

Sassuolo could let their hitman leave on loan with an option to buy, and he is also of interest to Villarreal.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan at Genoa, scoring 10 goals in 36 Serie A appearances.
