Liam Delap has been in the spotlight recently, both for good and bad. An exclusive today claims he could be sold or loaned in the summer.
An exclusive transfer rumour from CaughtOffside this morning has claimed that Chelsea striker Liam Delap is available for a transfer or loan this summer if the right offer comes in.
They say that a “loan is more likely”, but also that a permanent deal is also possible for the striker we bought from Ipswich for £30m last summer. He’s managed 2 goals in 1000 league minutes in his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
“Delap might not have much longer at Chelsea,” their source claimed.
“It’s clear that he’s struggled, and they’ll be open to a loan this summer – that could be with an option or obligation to buy, but don’t be surprised if they’re open to permanent offers straight away.”
They also note that Manchester United’s “admiration” for Delap hasn’t changed.
Despite the rumours would be very surprised, at this stage, if Delap goes anywhere this summer.
But there is some logic to a loan, without doubt. Jamie Carragher pointed out that it would have been a better idea for Delap to move to a club where he would play regularly than to Chelsea as he tries to develop. Jason Cundy said something similar about a loan, pointing out that nobody wants to be third choice striker. With Emmanuel Emegha and potentially even Nicolas Jackson returning, Delap could have an even bigger struggle for minutes next season.
Geovany Quenda is currently at Cobham doing some rehab and getting used to the surroundings as he prepares for a summer move.
