Angel Gomes, who currently plays for Lille, sees his contract due to expire in June of this year.
The French side Olympique de Marseille has made a concrete offer for Gomes, with coach Roberto De Zerbi viewing him as a player who can seamlessly adapt to the team’s playing system. Considering the fierce competition between Serie A and Premier League clubs, Marseille aims to finalise the transfer swiftly.
Gomes’ return to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely. The Boy Hotspur understands that Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign the player on a free transfer. The London club has been tracking Gomes for a long time and sees him as an excellent opportunity.
Everton and Crystal Palace have also been impressed by his confident style of play and are contemplating making attractive offers. Meanwhile, the possibility of Gomes returning to Manchester United should not be ruled out, as the Red Devils may consider a late move for their former player.
Napoli and Juventus are among the top Italian clubs interested in signing Gomes. Juventus is seen as a strong fit for the midfielder and is keen to capitalise on this opportunity. Napoli also holds Gomes in high regard, believing he can significantly contribute to the team with his talents.
Our view
With Tottenham in the Europa League final, we could be back in business as a football club, and a player of Gomes’ calibre would make a whole world of sense. Our midfield needs more players who can offer variety and authority to it.
The current example of James Morrison being out of action is another salutary reminder that Spurs need more than one player for each position. Postecoglou said he was proud of his players’ efforts recently,
“It’s not easy making so many changes, and it’s going to affect the fluency and even the rhythm of the team…”
Therefore, anything the club can do to assist the gaffer when it comes to offering some depth is vitally important.
