There are some remarkable reports that Daniele De Rossi could return as the coach of Roma under the guidance of club advisor Claudio Ranieri.

Their campaign had started with De Rossi at the helm, after he had taken over from sacked Jose Mourinho in January 2024.

He lasted only until September 18, when he too was fired to bring in Ivan Juric, who then got the boot in November to totally transform their fortunes under Ranieri.

That was always going to be a short-term tenure, with Ranieri insisting he would go back into retirement at the end of the season, so the hunt has been on for months to find a suitable heir.

Ranieri looks to De Rossi for Roma job

Now a surprising suggestion has emerged from Tuttomercatoweb, which would see De Rossi return for another stab at the Roma job, this time guided by Ranieri behind the scenes.

Another important situation has changed since he was sacked in September 2024, as CEO Lina Souloukou resigned just days later, having been blasted by fans and the media for her part in this decision.

His record on the Giallorossi bench was of 14 victories, nine draws and seven defeats, an average of 1.7 points per game.

It of course remains to be seen if De Rossi would be willing to get burned again by his beloved hometown club, where he spent most of his playing career.

Since January 2025, he has started a new project of his own, purchasing lower division club Ostiamare.
