Cesc Fabregas believes that the sky is the limit for Como sensation Nico Paz, and claims that he will not be judging Alvaro Morata by his goalscoring record following his side’s 2-0 victory over Juventus on Sunday.
Como picked up their first win over Juventus in over 70 years with a 2-0 victory at the Sinigaglia on Sunday thanks to goals from Paz and Marc-Oliver Kempf.
You can see how the action unfolded on the Football Italia Liveblog.
Speaking to DAZN after full-time, Fabregas, who had been suspended for the Juventus match, gave his verdict on a number of his key players.
He insists that Morata is bringing a lot to the table, even if he is yet to find the back of the net in eight appearances since joining Como.
“Morata did exactly what I asked for,” Fabregas said. “A striker is judged by their goals, but I don’t. He has to score goals for himself, but not for me. He has shown exactly why we brought him to Como.”
There was no Assane Diao in the Como squad, despite pre-match suggestions that he could be in line to feature, Fabregas says that the youngster will be bled back in gradually after such a lengthy period on the sidelines.
“Diao was a forced choice, he hasn’t trained with the team. He’s been out for six or seven months. His importance is understandable, but winning without him is great for the team. We’ll try to bring him back in calmly, he will train with the group from Tuesday.”
And finally, on Nico Paz, who sealed victory over Juventus with a magnificent individual goal, Fabregas said: “Nico is a champion. I’m very calm about him and his future. He can get to wherever he wants if he carries on with this hunger and humility. The talent and physicality are there.”
