Tottenham plan to advance in talks to appoint Brentford boss Thomas Frank as their new head coach

Ange Postecoglou eventually paid the price for an unacceptable Premier League season that saw Tottenham Hotspur finish just one place above the relegation zone. And the club’s Europa League triumph in Bilbao was not enough to save the Australian from what had seemed inevitable for weeks.

“Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties,” Spurs wrote as part of a statement on the club website.

Ange Postecoglou famously said he wins trophies in his second season at a club, and despite him living up to his words, Daniel Levy’s decision to sack him on Friday has not gone down well in certain sections of the fanbase.

The 59-year-old’s two seasons in North London included dizzying highs and unimaginable lows. Now, with the club having cut ties with him, it means the Lilywhites will have a new manager when they kick off their 2025-26 season with the UEFA Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain in August.

There are many names under consideration to succeed Postecoglou at Tottenham. The likes of Fulham’s Marco Silva, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and are among the names understood to be in the frame. The decision-makers of Spurs have even contemplated bringing back Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently in charge of the USMNT.

But Brentford manager Thomas Frank is the leading candidate for the vacant job at White Hart Lane, and reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a major update as to where Spurs stand in their search.

On his official X account, the Italian transfer guru says Tottenham are “prepared to advance in talks” for Thomas Frank in the coming days.

Since joining Brentford in 2018, Frank has overseen the club’s promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, establishing them a top-flight outfit in recent years. The Dane has earned praise for pragmatism, tactical nous and in-game management, whilst maintaining great relationship with his players and improving them at the Gtech Community Stadium. Plus, he has managed to help the Bees maintain their Premier League status on a shoestring budget, defying the odds in the process.

So, there is a reason the 51-year-old has emerged as the favourite to replace Ange at the club. After managing Brentford for seven long years, he’d certainly relish the challenge of leading a ‘Big Six’ club’s project. And as Levy has set his sights on hiring the Danish tactician, Tottenham must be his release clause worth nearly £10m.
