After weeks of speculation, the Benjamin Sesko transfer saga involving Newcastle and Manchester United appears to be nearing its conclusion.
United have made Sesko their top target ahead of Ollie Watkins, and since then, it’s been a tug-of-war between the two clubs.
Newcastle are willing to match any demands from both club and player. However, Man Utd supporters remain hopeful, noting that if Sesko truly wanted the move to Newcastle, it likely would have happened by now.
Sesko has become a top target for United, largely due to Christopher Vivell’s influence, and they’ve put him ahead of more established Premier League options like Ollie Watkins.
Even at 22, they clearly believe in Sesko’s upside and sees him as a long-term fit up front.
Behind the scenes, United are pushing hard to get the deal over the line, which could also hand Newcastle another setback in this window.
If it goes through, it would follow their earlier moves for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, both of whom were also linked with Newcastle before joining the Red Devils.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested that things are moving towards a resolution. He explained:
“We are entering into really important stages. The agent of Sesko is in Leipzig to speak with the player and help with negotiations. It’s decision time.
“Man Utd made clear to RB Leipzig on Saturday night that they will send a bid for Sesko if the player opens the door. They feel he is still deciding; he hasn’t decided to go to Newcastle. Utd made new contact with Leipzig.”
While United’s determination to land Sesko is clear, the fact that their pursuit is playing out so publicly could create more problems than solutions for the club.
With the transfer window closing in under a month and the Premier League season just around the corner, United have put all their eggs in the Sesko basket.
If he chooses Newcastle, it leaves United exposed, with everyone aware of their need to bring in a forward.
Villa are standing firm on Watkins’ price tag, and any other club approached by United will know they’re negotiating from a position of strength.
This would come after missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea earlier in the window. That disappointment is partly why they’ve zeroed in so heavily on Sesko now.
