Chelsea are known as the club in world football that places the most emphasis on signing young players, doing their best to turn gems into superstars at an even higher rate than the likes of Real Madrid.
Just this past summer, the Blues hit the jackpot on young right winger Estevao Willian from Palmeiras in Brazil, but there is another 18 year old standout whom the Blues are hoping can make it big as an attacking midfielder or right winger in the future.
Kendry Paez joined Chelsea in 2023 from Independiente del Valle as one of the two most hyped Ecuadorian talents alongside defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo, who had already broken out as a Premier League superstar.
Currently, Paez is plying his trade at Strasbourg in Ligue 1, the partner club of Chelsea who has already given the club their new manager in Liam Rosenior to replace the recently fired Enzo Maresca.
Even though Kendry Paez has started just four games for Strasbourg in Ligue 1 this season with nearly three times as many substitute appearances as starts – and just one goal with no assists- Chelsea already have big things planned for their teenage gem.
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano while speaking to DAZN Football, Chelsea have come with a potential plan to recall Paez’s loan from Strabsourg and send him to another Premier League club so that he can get experience in the English top flight before eventually joining the Blues in the future.
It is an excellent idea that may start to become a blueprint for other clubs in the future. See, a big problem with young players has been making the transition to the Premier League from another league.
Estevao had no such trouble, but he is the exception, not the rule. Even Enzo Fernandez was slow to adjust to the Premier League. And others like Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, and Mykhaylo Mudryk never did.
So it makes a ton of sense for Chelsea to send Paez out to another club in England, and even if he hurts them head to head, that is all the better since iron sharpens iron and Paez is only going to become a great player if he faces off against clubs like Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester City most weeks.
In Ligue 1, the only truly great team he will battle is PSG, and Strasbourg largely don’t have the fire power to help Paez compete with them. Nothing is guaranteed, but Fab’s latest report is a great plan for Chelsea.
