Manchester United are expected to part ways with Jadon Sancho even if Chelsea opt to pass on him

Manchester United have some major decisions to make in the upcoming summer transfer window following a disappointing domestic campaign. With several players expected to depart, Ruben Amorim will be tasked with rebuilding a squad capable of competing across all competitions next season.

One player certain to dominate the transfer headlines once again is Jadon Sancho. The English winger arrived at Old Trafford amid great fanfare after a string of world-class performances for Borussia Dortmund. Signed for a hefty fee, Sancho was expected to be a game-changer.

However, his time at United has been plagued by inconsistency, off-field controversies, and underwhelming displays. His relationship with former manager Erik ten Hag deteriorated significantly, eventually leading to a loan move back to Dortmund last season.

Fabrizio Romano reveals the only way that can force Manchester United to retain Jadon Sancho

The winger was loaned out to Chelsea till the end of the season. However, after the bright start, he has fizzled out, and Chelsea are deeply thinking about whether they will pay the mandatory fee of £25 million to sign him permanently at the end of the season or pay a penalty fee of £5 million to send him back to United.

Reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via Youtube has clearly stated that Sancho wants to stay at Chelsea, and even if the Blues send him back to Old Trafford, United won’t be retaining him, as the decision to sell him was already made one year ago. The only way Sancho might be able to stay at Manchester United is if Ruben Amorim makes some crazy efforts.

“My information on recent stories is that even if Chelsea decide to send Jadon Sancho back to Old Trafford, the plan is to not continue together. The priority for Sancho is to stay at Chelsea. In case Chelsea decide the opposite, it would take something absolutely crazy, completely driven by Ruben Amorim to change things for him to stay because management already decided to give up on him one year ago.”

It is quite clear that United won’t be looking to keep him, most probably, as he had become a burden on the team with his unprofessional actions and his flop show.

Jadon Sancho has scored two goals in 25 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.11. Moreover, Sancho’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 6 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.34 per 90 minutes, and his non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.12.

It is gutting as Sancho clearly had the talent, but it just never clicked for him at Old Trafford. Maybe Amorim could work a miracle, but let’s be honest, it would take something extraordinary to convince the board to give him another shot. Honestly, it’s time to move on for all parties.
