Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign the sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro.

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have held talks with Sporting regarding a January transfer, and all parties are optimistic that a deal will be done soon.

Previously, there were reports that Sporting were holding out for a fee of around €45 million for the 23-year-old Spaniard and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham end up paying the release clause for the defender.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the Portuguese club season, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Antonio Conte.

The likes of Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal have been quite inconsistent this season and summer signing Djed Spence has failed to earn the trust of his manager.

Signing a quality right-back was a top priority for the London club and Conte will be delighted if the Premier League side can get a deal for the Spaniard across the line before the January window closes.

The 23-year-old managed to impress against Tottenham in the Champions League, and he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League as well. The defender has two goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season and it remains to be seen whether he can hit the ground running.

Tottenham are currently competing for a place in the top four and Porro could make a big difference for them and help them secure Champions League qualification.
