Injury Updates to Note

In-form Patrick Dorgu is out with a hamstring injury, ruling him out of Manchester United’s game against Fulham.

Also with a hamstring injury, Ollie Watkins’ availability for Gameweek 24 is yet to be confirmed by Aston Villa. He sustained the injury on Thursday, January 29, in the Villans’ 3-2 Europa League win over RB Salzburg, which saw them finish second in the league stage table.

Another team that received an injury blow in the midweek action was Manchester City – Jeremy Doku is out with a calf injury.

On the flip side, Cole Palmer returned to action, coming on as a substitute in Chelsea’s 3-2 UEFA Champions League win over Napoli to automatically qualify for the last of 16. The forward is likely to start against West Ham at Stamford Bridge come Saturday.

Their London rivals also have positive news. Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Arsenal will be able to call upon William Saliba and Jurrien Timber against Leeds, after the pair missed out on the UCL action.

Must-Have FPL Picks

Bouncing off a 3-2 win over Liverpool last weekend, Bournemouth are likely to leave Wolverhampton with three points. Forward Evanilson (£7.0m), midfielders Amine Adli (£5.4m) and Lewis Cook (£4.9m), and defender Senesi (£4.8m) are all good Fantasy Football Matchweek 24 picks from the Cherries.

Michael Carrick has had a strong start to his new role as Manchester United interim head coach, beating both Man City and Arsenal. Up next for the Red Devils is Fulham, and while many are sceptical about whether momentum can be carried onto a weaker opponent, Carrick’s squad still serves up good FPL options – Bruno Fernandes (£9.5m), Bryan Mbeumo (£8.3m), Matheus Cunha (£8.0m) and Casemiro (£5.5m). The real question lies in just how much you trust United, and Carrick.

From the Aston Villa vs Brentford fixture, Bees’ forward Igor Thiago (£7.2m) and Villa’s Morgan Rogers (£7.7m) are safe picks. Avoid defenders, with both teams likely to score.

Erling Haaland (£15.0m) returned to scoring ways with an early goal in City’s 2-0 win over Galatasaray in the final league stage game of the UCL. FPL managers who have refused to sell him – myself included – will be hoping that he carries that momentum into the Premier League. However, City do not have the best recent record against Tottenham. In their last four meetings, Spurs have beaten City thrice with two clean sheets. Therefore, Tottenham defender Cristian Romero (£5.0m) may be a better option than Haaland.

Other Fantasy Football Matchweek 24 must-have picks include Chelsea’s Joao Pedro (£7.2m), Brighton’s Yasin Ayari (£4.8m) and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White (£7.3m).

FPL Captaincy Picks

  • Igor Thiago (Villa vs Brentford)
  • Erling Haaland (Spurs vs Man City)
  • Bryan Mbeumo (Man Utd vs Fulham)
