It was goals galore in the Premier League this week. 36 goals were scored over the course of the weekend, but just ten gameweeks remain – how is your FPL team looking as we enter the season’s endgame?
Arsenal are currently sitting pretty at the summit of the table, having recorded a win over rivals Chelsea to retain their spot. Meanwhile, bottom club Wolves picked up an unlikely victory over Aston Villa and found a glimmer of hope in the dying embers of the season – but which individual players stood out the most?
As gameweek 28 was such a high-scoring period, naturally, it was also low-scoring weekend for goalkeepers in Fantasy Premier League. One ‘keeper stood out from amongst the rest – Jose Sa’s eight points makes him this week’s star goalkeeper.
The Portuguese international is selected by just 1.2% of FPL players at the time of writing, so you can consider yourself fortunate if you’re one of the few who played him.
West Ham United have been on a decent run as of late, but they came well and truly unstuck against Liverpool. The Reds put five goals beyond the Hammers, meaning that Mads Hermansen scored zero points for the gameweek.
Manchester City’s Rayan Ait-Nouri was this week’s highest-scoring defender. He kept a clean sheet and notched up an assist against Leeds United to give himself a healthy total of 11 points for gameweek 28.
William Saliba is far less popular on FPL than his Arsenal contemporaries, but he outscored the lot of them this weekend. In total, the French international racked up ten points.
Meanwhile, Axel Disasi had a tough week. West Ham conceded five goals against Liverpool at the weekend – to compound Disasi’s misery, he also scored an own goal towards the end of the game. For this, he ended up with a total of -2 points.
Mikkel Damsgaard hadn’t registered a goal contribution since December 27 before the weekend – all of sudden, the Danish international popped up with three. Netting two goals and notching up an assist, Damsgaard was this week’s highest-scoring player with 18 points on the board.
Joao Gomes is also one of FPL’s lesser-picked midfielders – he racked up 14 points at the weekend for his stellar efforts against Aston Villa.
Pedro Neto, on the other hand, had a gameweek to forget. After failing to make much of an impact against Arsenal, he was sent off for a picking up a reckless second yellow.
Hugo Ekitike found his scoring boots again when Liverpool travelled to West Ham. He notched up two assists and scored a goal against the Irons, giving him a much-improved points total of 15.
Three players finished as this week’s runner up in terms of forwards – Danny Welbeck, Eliezer Mayenda and Beto all scored nine points for their contributions in gameweek 28.
Erling Haaland, conversely, did not play this week. He is FPL’s most expensive and highest-scoring player this season – but will he become a dead weight in your team as we reach the end of the season? Given his current injury worries and Manchester City’s herculean fixture schedule, it may be time to move on.
