Yesterday the Seattle Sounders faced FC Dallas and returned to winning ways, beating FC Dallas 1-0. How did they do it, and did the RAVE Green deserve to beat FC Dallas at Lumen Field last night? Well, that’s exactly what I found out, so please read on and find out now!

A Win That Comes Off the Sounders’ Recent Struggles

The Sounders’ most recent results have been lackluster. Especially coming off a long unbeaten streak that saw the Sounders go up the Western Conference standings. However, FC Dallas proved to be the right time to right the ship, even if it didn’t come off the back of Seattle’s greatest performance. While the Sounders had more possession, passes, and better pass accuracy, it was FC Dallas who took advantage and had more shots and shots on target using relentless counterattacks that broke down the Sounders’ defense.

The Match Emphasized Both Teams’ Scoring Issues

FC Dallas, who sold their top finisher, Jesus Ferreira, struggled for goals this week. They were unable to take advantage of having more shots. This has been a constant throughout the season as FC Dallas sits outside the playoff standings, tied for the fourth-least amount of goals in the conference so far this year. While Seattle has far more goals compared to the opportunities created is disappointing. Hence, the debate for a new striker amongst Sounders fans.

This match didn’t help matters at all, as their only goal was a penalty by defending Player of the Year Albert Rusnák in the 86th minute. It would be the only goal of the match.

Sounders Only Beat Inferior Teams

FC Dallas, as stated before, is 11th in the Western Conference, which is six spots below the Seattle Sounders. The Sounders’ last wins were against the likes of the Dynamo of Houston, St. Louis, and Nashville. All teams below them in the standings.

Despite wanting to increase their odds of winning another championship against competitive teams like LAFC and the Timbers, they either lose 4-0 (LAFC) or draw 1-1 (Timbers). The Sounders are showing an obvious ceiling. They will have to make moves or adjustments to overcome it if they want to win a title.

What’s next for both teams?

The Sounders will face San Diego FC on Wednesday, May 28 at home. While on the same day, FC Dallas takes on FC Cincinnati. Thanks a bunch for reading!
