The transfer window has slammed shut for the season but that hasn’t stopped some rumours popping up for summer moves already. While there are only vague rumours currently, one believable name being linked to Chelsea is Borussia Dortmund man Felix Nmecha, with the player’s agent having to deny any links to a move away during an interview with Sports Bild. While we wait for better, more reliable sources to jump on this story, we’re going to focus on this scouting profile to discuss what the midfielder offers.

Felix Nmecha Scout Report – Potential Chelsea Target

Profile

The 25-year-old is a German international who has been playing regularly in the Bundesliga and European competitions since 2021 after making his mark at Wolfsburg. He made the move to Dortmund in 2023 where he’s become a core part of their midfield under Niko Kovac. He initially came up through the Manchester City academy and made a handful of appearances for them before his exit.

The midfielder is a strong physical profile at 6 foot 3, he is on the leaner side but could physically adapt to the Premier League where his height would make him a strong addition to any midfield.

Nmecha Stats

The German has made 159 senior appearances across all competitions, with 106 coming for Dortmund since making his move there. He’s grabbed 16 goals in that time despite tending to play deeper in midfield. He has the same number of assists, showing a decent ability to create chances from this position.

With just shy of 9,000 minutes of senior football to his name, he has a lot of experience playing top flight football, boasting 30 of his appearances in the Champions League. He has six caps for his national team, finding it difficult to break in despite being local.

Playing Style

Nmecha is an interesting talent, he is often adjusting his positioning, always aware of where he is in relation to the ball, jogging from place to place and keeping his head on a swivel. This is most obvious when in possession as he’s often looking for the next pass before he’s even received the ball. In his current system he’s asked to do a bit of everything, bringing the team forward and making overlapping support runs at times to keep the attack flowing.

Statistically, he’s an all-rounder, able to get shots away at a decent clip from a deeper spot, having one of the better xGOT rates in his position. He has 17 chances created with an 87% pass completion, he has strong duel-winning and dribbling numbers while being good at intercepting the ball, often being in position to cut out attacks.

He is the kind of midfield that Chelsea love, he gets on the ball, he can defend, he can dribble, and he can pass, he has an at ease passing range and drifts into good positions to contribute to attacks and defensive actions.

One major benefit is his tactical flexibility, he has played in a midfield three under Kovac but has also operated as a double pivot. With Romeo Lavia’s health being unreliable, Nmecha could be a great replacement option to pair with Moises Caicedo or as a robust trio supporting the attack.
