Bologna fear Lewis Ferguson suffered a season-ending knee injury during Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Monza as the Scotland international will undergo medical tests in the coming hours.

Bologna midfielder Ferguson was forced off the pitch in the second half of a 0-0 draw against Monza on Saturday and will undergo medical checks on Monday.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the 24-year-old left the Stadio Dall’Ara on crutches on Saturday and told fans he feared not being eligible in the next Serie A game against direct rivals Roma.

“Frustrating night for everyone but we keep pushing!! Hoping the injury isn’t too serious and I’m back soon,” Ferguson wrote on Instagram after the match.

Bologna fear Ferguson suffered season-ending injury

Ferguson remained on the ground after a challenge with Monza defender Samuele Birindelli at minute 13 in the second half and according to Gazzetta, Bologna doctors feared the Scotland international had suffered a cruciate ligament injury that would keep him out of action for several months.

Ferguson has played a key role at the Stadio Dall’Ara this season with six goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions. He has started 31 Serie A games from 32, missing just one through suspension.
