Fernandes’ prospective United exit edges closer as European giants establish interest while he targets ‘major trophies’

It’s difficult to imagine a Manchester United side without Bruno Fernandes at the heart of it nowadays, but the Old Trafford faithful may be compelled to come to terms with the prospect.

There’s been an upsurge in reports linking the Portugal playmaker with a move away from United recently, particularly after his comments over a prospective transfer last month raised eyebrows over whether he’d be staying put for much longer.

Last night, an article from Neil Custis claimed that Fernandes is mulling over a summer exit after four-and-a-half years of being United’s talisman, and now, the Independent have revealed that European giants Bayern Munich are interested in acquiring his services.

Michael Delaney writes that Fernandes has grown ‘frustrated by the sense of drift’ at the club and is adamant about winning ‘major trophies’ as he looks towards his 30th birthday. Bayern believe a deal can be agreed for the club captain, who is contracted to United until 2027.

Former skipper Gary Neville believes Fernandes is the side’s only successful big-name signing post-Sir Alex Ferguson, and it’s a sentiment that plenty of the United faithful will echo.
