FIFA has a responsibility to represent, communicate with, and urgency to ensure that clubs across the world are supported in the correct manner.
As the head of football on the globe, the Federation works with its partners to ensure that the game moves forward and becomes better.
That is done through rule changes, regulation adjustments, communications to partners, and other actions.
One part that FIFA controls is compensation to clubs for reasons.
As a part of that, the association offers a Club Protection Programme which is designed to ensure that clubs across the world are given extra safety when their players are called up to respective national teams.
If a player becomes injured on international duty, and cannot return to their respective playing duties at club level, FIFA offers financial rewards.
The Federation’s official explanation of the payments states: “Players can receive up to €7.5m [£6.6m] per accident, paid daily for a maximum of 365 days after the first 28 days of absence.
“Payments are calculated on the player’s fixed salary only, excluding bonuses or other variable pay. Each club can claim up to €80m per year.”
Manchester United may now benefit from this after Manuel Ugarte suffered a major knee injury in Uruguay’s third group stage fixture against Spain, which forced the midfielder to be stretchered off the field.
His World Cup is at an end, and his short-term playing career with Manchester United is also at a pause as he faces a tough recovery period.
Some sources online have suggested that the midfielder could be out for between 9 and 12 months whilst Fabrizio Romano has stated that United fear that the injury is major.
Ugarte currently earns £120,000 at Old Trafford each week which is the maximum salary that FIFA offers compensation for.
If the midfielder is out for 9 months, Manchester United may receive €4,320,000 (£3,727,080) in compensation whilst if he is out for 12 months, the club could receive €5,760,000 (£4,969,440).
Either way, it appears likely that Manchester United will receive millions of pounds as a result of Manuel Ugarte’s injury, money that may be put towards the midfielder’s salary.
