Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount may have produced his best showing since joining the club in the summer of 2023.

The Red Devils splashed £55 million to sign the England international from Chelsea, but between injuries, forgettable performances, and managerial changes, he was lost in the shuffle at Carrington.

Nevertheless, Ruben Amorim was almost instantly impressed by the 26-year-old upon his arrival last November. The manager went on to describe Mount as a player he ‘loves’, while insisting that he’s at the heart of his plans.

Despite the arrival of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, the England international has been able to receive considerable playing time this season.

On Saturday, he was once selected in the starting lineup against Sundeland, playing as an attacking midfielder alongside Mbeumo, with Sesko leading the line, while Cunha was surprisingly dropped to the bench.

Amorim’s decision to include Mount paid off, with the latter breaking the deadlock against the Black Cats with a fabulous finish.

The former Chelsea player was also crucial in linking up the play, and he also acted as a leader, giving instructions to his teammates up front. Man Utd went on to win the contest by two unanswered goals, with Sesko netting the second.

Therefore, The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst selected Mount as the Man of the Match, handing him a rating of 8/10.

Luckhurst also hailed the attacking midfielder in his match report, identifying this performance as his best in a Man Utd shirt, which was also evidenced by the standing ovation he received while exiting the pitch.

Over the past few years, Mount’s biggest challenge has been avoiding injuries. While he has encountered physical issues earlier this season, he has been enjoying a relatively positive run on this front, and it has certainly helped him gain some momentum and challenge for a starting spot, even if he has to vie for his place against this summer’s big-money signings.

Luckily for Mount, he has now found a manager who has genuine faith in his talent, and is happy to grant him a fair chance.
