ACF Fiorentina have endured a terrible, winless start to their 99th season in Serie A.
Now, it will be Paolo Vanoli’s turn to take over the hot seat at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
On Wednesday, football insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Fiorentina has agreed terms to hire Vanoli as head coach.
“Fiorentina have reached an agreement with Paolo Vanoli to become the new head coach. Deal in place after Stefano Pioli got fired earlier this week,” Romano tweeted on X.

La Viola are yet to record a win through 10 Serie A matches, having drawn four matches and lost six. The club fired Stefano Pioli after he steered Fiorentina to the club’s worst-ever start.
Pioli previously led AC Milan to the Scudetto in 2021-22. His second reign at Fiorentina only lasted four months after he was re-hired in July, replacing Raffaele Palladino.
Vanoli has his work cut out for him. Sitting at the bottom of the table, Fiorentina have only scored seven goals and have a minus-nine goal differential.
If La Viola is to remain in the Italian top flight, Vanoli must revitalize Fiorentina’s feeble attack while solidifying the back line. The Lilies are tied with Torino and Hellas Verona for the most goals conceded in Serie A (16), despite having former Spanish international David de Gea between the sticks.
On Saturday, Fiorentina will travel to Stadio Luigi Ferraris to face 18th-place Genoa. It might be the perfect opportunity for Vanoli to deliver a long-awaited win.
The 53-year-old most recently managed Torino. He was sacked at the end of the 2024-25 season after guiding The Maroons to an 11th-place Serie A finish.
His latest managerial stop will be a difficult challenge. Recently, Fiorentina suffered losses to Lecce and Inter Milan.
A change in fortunes at Stadio Artemio Franchi must start now.
