Filipe Luis has been dismissed by Flamengo, a club where he once played, and they later gave him his first role as head coach. Coincidentally, it was also one of the clubs reportedly interested in hiring Leicester City manager Liam Rosenior earlier this year.

After stints as Flamengo’s U17 and U20 managers, he was given the first-team role in September 2024 and has remained since. Clocking up 101 appearances as Flamengo managers, Luis has secured 64 victories.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Luis is now set to receive his marching orders. The Italian journalist says Flamengo have informed Luis that he will be sacked after failing to win two crucial pieces of silverware.

Earlier this month, Memphis Depay’s Corinthians side came out on top against Flamengo 2-0, a result compounded by losing the two-legged CONMEBOL Recopa final to Lanus over the past week.

Even though Flamengo’s plans to move on from Luis had been taking shape since the loss to Lanus, he still oversaw an 8-0 win over Madureira in the early hours of Tuesday morning, fielding a strong lineup despite holding a three-goal lead from the first leg.

Madureira were completely overwhelmed by Flamengo, with goals coming thick and fast. Pedro bagged a first-half hat-trick and Lucas Paqueta added two more after being linked with Chelsea again. Despite the dominant performance, reports indicate it was Luis’ final game in charge.

Paqueta’s goals took his tally to eight across all competitions this season. However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Flamengo decided to part ways with Luis even before kickoff.

Liam Rosenior now under pressure at Chelsea

Meanwhile, the pressure is on Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge. Hired as Enzo Maresca’s replacement at the start of the year, Rosenior started well before failing to win any of his last three league matches.

But quite easily, it might have been someone else in the dugout instead of Rosenior and Luis was one manager interviewed by Chelsea. The former Blues left-back was eyed as Enzo Maresca’s replacement.

Now, Luis is out of work and likely will be looking for a job in Europe as his next stint. Another reason for Rosenior to look over his shoulder and sort out the discipline and set-piece issues he has inherited.
