Tottenham look to fend off competition for Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup

There is no surprise that Tottenham need to bring in reinforcements in the summer after enduring a disastrous domestic campaign. The Lilywhites ended the season on a high after winning the Europa League trophy last week, but that should not overshadow the disappointing Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

The lack of squad depth and numerous injuries to key players played a vital part in ensuring that Spurs finished the Premier League campaign just a place above the relegation zone. Even though Ange’s men secured Champions League football for next season via the Europa League triumph, there is no doubt that a massive squad overhaul is needed in the summer.

The Lilywhites must cash in on underperforming players quickly and bring in better replacements if they want to close the gap on their rivals next season. The poor league position has also forced Spurs to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy as the North London club has incurred huge financial losses in the last financial year. However, winning the Europa League has ensured that Tottenham might attract good players for next season.

Tottenham receive massive boost in their efforts to land Genoa star Morten Frendrup

Tottenham need to bring in some midfield reinforcements in the summer to address the issues in the middle of the pitch. With Yves Bissouma facing an uncertain future at the club and Rodrigo Bentancur linked with a move to Spain, Daniel Levy must bring in a quality player to fill the void left behind by the pair.

It was reported earlier that Spurs are interested in signing Morten Frendrup from Genoa in the summer. The midfielder is valued at £17m by the Italian side and it is believed that he is open to test himself in a new environment next season. The aforementioned report had also suggested that Frendrup is preferring a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool interested in his services as well.

Now, the Genoa star has provided an update on is future. Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Morten Frendrup said,

“I am flattered by links with some big clubs. However, my only focus is on Genoa. I like to stay in the present. It’s nice to see my name mentioned with Premier League or European teams, but I think it’s important to keep my feet on the ground and stay in the present.”

Well, it is quite clear that the 24-year-old is heading for the exit doors at Genoa this summer. The Denmark international clearly wants to play at the top club and he is aiming to seal a move to the Premier League in this transfer window. GMS reports that along with Tottenham, West Ham United and Brentford have also entered the race to sign the midfielder.

Signing Morten Frendrup would put Yves Bissouma’s place in the starting eleven in jeopardy. The Danish midfielder has been in scintillating form this season and prefers to play as a holding midfielder for his team. The 24-year-old is known for his positional awareness and tackling to recover possession. Frendrup also initiates a high-press and has a good passing range.
