Over the past few weeks, Florian Wirtz has been on the radar of many top clubs in Europe. His future at Bayer Leverkusen looks likely to be over as Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool are the teams most interested in the player.

A crucial part of the talks with the player has taken place over the past few days. After Man City pulled out of the race for Wirtz, Bayern and Liverpool battled to convince the star to join. Wirtz and his family were set to decide whether to stay in Germany, and now new reports suggest his decision has been made.

David Ornstein from The Athletic reports that Wirtz prefers a move to Liverpool instead of moving to Bayern Munich this summer. The report suggests that Bayern now believe that the player will pursue a move to Liverpool if he leaves Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Liverpool may need to bid up to around $170 million for Wirtz this summer.

Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool have yet to agree on a deal for the transfer move, but the player's decision sets it up for the Premier League champions to make a bid and sign the player this summer.

Matteo Moretto from Relevo reports Liverpool is moving fast and is close to an agreement with Wirtz. The player waits for the two clubs to finalize an agreement. It is likely to happen since Leverkusen preferred to sell Wirtz to a club outside of Germany.

Florian Wirtz's Early Plans to Join Liverpool

Ornstein reports that Wirtz has traveled to North West England to look for houses to live in, in case the move is finalized in the next few months. Rumors suggested it was for a potential Man City move, but now it's revealed that it's for a potential Liverpool move.

The player hinted at a move away from Germany in an interview with Sports Illustrated Germany. Many rumors suggested that if he were to move, it would be in the Premier League or in La Liga. Wirtz mentioned that teammates at Leverkusen influenced his thinking of potentially moving to play in another country.

Florian Wirtz: "I have a lot of respect for guys here in Leverkusen who come from South America or Africa, leave their families & surroundings behind for their careers. It definitely appeals to me to leave my comfort zone at some point and experience something new. I know football locker rooms well enough, I’m convinced that I would quickly settle in wherever I go.”

If all goes to plan, Wirtz will become a Liverpool player next season as he decided to join them over a move to Bayern. The player would have played his last game for Leverkusen last weekend, in a 2-2 draw against Mainz.

Wirtz joined the club in 2020 from FC Koln and since then has become one of Germany's most exciting players. He played a total of 197 games for Leverkusen, scoring a total of 57 goals and providing 65 assists.

In this 2024-25 season, he scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists across all competitions. He played a total of 45 games for Leverkusen this season. Wirtz made a name for himself last season when he helped Leverkusen win their first-ever Bundesliga title, and on top of that, doing it unbeaten.

Liverpool close to Leverkusen Duo

Liverpool fans are excited for this potential signing as the club is reportedly after a creative midfielder. As the transfer window gets closer, many will have an idea of what Reds manager Arne Slot is slowly building for next season.

While this report hints that Liverpool will likely be able to sign Wirtz, they are already set to announce their first summer signing. Liverpool reportedly has signed Jeremie Frimpong.

The Leverkusen right-back is brought in as the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold. According to Paul Joyce from The Times, Frimpong has already completed his Liverpool medicals. All that is left is the official announcement.
