Paulo Fonseca, since joining AC Milan in the summer, has often been polarising. However, there is a growingly shared view that he may not be the right man to lead the club.

This is not the first instance that Fonseca’s time at Milan has been threatened, and by all accounts, it probably won’t be the last. However, this seems like the most damning time for it.

Despite continued efforts to grow into the season and a title fight, the Rossoneri have not shown their credentials of an ability to contest for the Scudetto, and it can be argued that they are not even showing credibility for a European place.

For this reason, Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) have stated that the Portuguese head coach is ‘clinging’ to hopes of a revival, as only Champions League qualification would save his job.

This season, the goal is to make it as far as possible in the competition, but next season’s qualification is paramount.

Fonseca, reportedly, is ‘hoping’ for his team to become ‘unblocked’ and start to find consistent results – something which he believes would instil confidence in himself and the project – but any signs of this unblocking are not showing. If anything, the block is worsening.
