Lille head coach Paulo Fonseca has dismissed the notion that he has an agreement in place with another club amid the links suggesting he is likely to take over at AC Milan.

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes that Fonseca is currently the main candidate to become the new head coach but they have cast their net far and wide, even speaking with the agents of Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni.

The former Roma coach will face Nice tomorrow in a crucial match for earning a place in the Champions League (Lille are currently third), but there continues to be speculation regarding his future with Les Dogues.

Fonseca spoke during his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game and he was rather predictably asked about the rumours, with his comments relayed by Radio Rossonera.

Do you have something in place with another club?

“What came out is not true. I don’t have an agreement with another club. I’m totally focused on the last match. Being able to go to the Champions League is important.”

Have you made a decision on your future?

“After that I will decide at the end of the season. But now I don’t want to talk about this, I want to focus on the match against Nice. I will decide after the last match but I have to think about it, talk about it with my directors, my agent and my family to make the best decision. It won’t necessarily be after the game.”

Is the Champions League a factor in your choice?

“Having the opportunity to play in the Champions League is important, but I have other things to think about to make my decision.”
