AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has refuted any notion that he feels like he is on the verge of being sacked, despite the many reports suggesting otherwise.

Milan were forced to accept a share of the spoils to end the calendar year, playing out a 1-1 draw with Roma at San Siro. Tijjani Reijnders got the opening goal before Paulo Dybala equalised, and the Rossoneri left the field amid jeers again as the Champions League spots remain far away.

Something bizarre happened in the build-up to the game as reports emerged right before kick-off suggesting that Fonseca might be taking charge of his last Milan match. These stories have since continued after, with many sources stating that Sergio Conceicao will take over.

Fonseca spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle when many were expecting him to perhaps not make any comments, given the rumours swirling and the fact he was sent off. However, he faced the cameras and MilanNews relayed his comments.

Did you have a heated discussion with Ibrahimovic?

“I haven’t spoken to anyone, I don’t know anything and I can’t comment because nothing happened.”

Do you feel your job is safe?

“Yes.”

Didn’t you talk to anyone in management?

“No, I haven’t talked to anyone.”

What did you think of the game?

“It was an open match. In the first half we created several chances, in the second half we started well. We played with the right attitude, then with the substitution of Chukwueze we lost a bit of organisation, we allowed 2-3 counter-attacks from Roma but overall we deserved to win.”
