Manchester United’s former players continue to make headlines across the globe, some for their performances, and others for their off-field antics.

As United’s rebuild under Ruben Amorim gains traction, several former Reds are finding life after Old Trafford far from straightforward.

Many of them have faced contrasting fortunes in their new surroundings, with differing levels of success both on and off the pitch.

While United’s current crop focuses on reclaiming their place among Europe’s elite, one ex-winger has found himself embroiled in a bizarre dispute that has nothing to do with footballing ability.

Instead, it revolves around luxury, lifestyle, and a contract fit for a superstar.

And this time, it’s Memphis Depay making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The 31-year-old has reportedly been told to vacate his £35,000-a-month penthouse suite at the Rosewood Hotel by Corinthians chiefs, as first reported by Brazilian outlet UOL.

Despite being a crucial figure for the Brazilian side, the club’s new president Osmar Stabile has decided that Depay’s lavish contract is “out of touch with reality” for the club.

Memphis Depay, who joined Corinthians in 2024 after a spell at Atletico Madrid, was promised a luxury penthouse, personal chef, private security, and even an armoured car as part of his signing package.

However, Stabile, who was elected president in August, has decided those perks no longer align with the club’s financial priorities.

The hotel arrangement alone costs the club around £35,000 per month, totalling more than £400,000 annually.

The president now wants Depay to relocate to a residence in the exclusive Alphaville gated community, though the forward is reportedly reluctant to move due to the area’s distance from the club’s training ground.

The standoff between player and president has created tension behind the scenes, but Depay, under contract until December 2026, remains unmoved.

Since arriving in Brazil, the ex-Barcelona and Manchester United winger has impressed on the pitch, guiding Corinthians to a Campeonato Paulista title earlier this year.

He’s made 58 appearances, scoring 16 goals and providing 14 assists, proving his value on the field even as off-field drama unfolds.

Memphis Depay also recently found himself in the headlines for personal reasons after Brazilian influencer Lary Simoes accused him of making her pregnant before allegedly cutting contact, a claim that further fuelled local tabloid interest in his life off the pitch.

For United fans, Depay’s story serves as a reminder of the contrasting paths taken by former Old Trafford talents, some chasing trophies, others still chasing balance.
