Manchester United have secured the signing of Bryan Mbeumo this summer

Last season was not a dream, but a nightmare. Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League. They lost to Tottenham in the Europa League final, and the club are now completely out of European competitions in the 2025/26 season. Ruben Amorim was brought in mid-season in 2024/25, but the situation did not improve. There was disappointment on the field and exhaustion in the dressing room. The continuous decline in performance for a few years had almost destroyed the hopes of the fans.

However, something changed this summer. First, the arrival of Matheus Cunha, and now another big move—the purchase of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for €75m. The club have also signed a young player, Diogo Leon. These changes have clearly indicated that Manchester United do not want to wait anymore. They want to put themselves among the contenders of the Premier League again.

A stellar addition

Speaking to Africa Foot, former Red Devils player Quinton Fortune praised Bryan Mbeumo and called it a masterstroke move by the club. He said that this signing is not only a big one but also one of the most important moves of United’s transfer window. Mbeumo scored 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford. Last season, the Cameroon footballer had 20 goals and nine assists – his best performance. The 25-year-old winger can score goals, create chances and play in multiple positions. He can bring new sharpness to United’s attack.

“Mbeumo’s move to Manchester United is not only a masterstroke, but also a major move for the transfer window. For me, he’s one of the top five strikers in the league right now.

He can score all sorts of goals, both inside and outside the box; he has that striking ability, and he’s proven it. He’s also capable of creating and setting up goals for other players. Bryan improves his team while remaining versatile in attack.

His arrival, along with that of Matheus Cunha, will relieve Bruno Fernandes of the burden he’s carried in recent seasons. Bryan also offers Ruben Amorim plenty of options thanks to his versatility. Therefore, for me, he’s a major signing for them.”

The special thing about Bryan Mbeumo is not just scoring goals, but his overall presence. He scores goals from inside the box as well as from outside, and also creates chances for his teammates. Ruben Amorim now has a player who can fit in any position in his system – be it on the wing, in the centre or as a second striker. Meanwhile, Neil Warnock questioned whether Bryan Mbeumo is ready to handle the pressure at Manchester United.

Manchester United have nothing to fear

As Manchester United fans, we completely agree with Quinton Fortune. Signing Bryan Mbeumo is a true masterstroke. He is 25 years old and has reached the prime phase of his career. The 20 goals and nine assists he recorded for Brentford last season show that he is not just showing promise but also performance.

In Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, a player like Bryan is a must. The creative pressure on Bruno Fernandes will now be reduced. If Bryan plays as a second striker, he can help link up with Bruno or Cunha. If Amorim puts him on the wing, he can create space and stretch the defence. The pairing of Cunha and Mbeumo can give this team the edge that has been missing for the last few seasons. This time, hopefully, we won’t just bounce back; we will bring fear back to the competition.
